High-Performance Serrated Blades

HIGH QUALITY SERRATED BLADES PERFECT FOR
FOOD PROCESSING AND CONVERTING FROM BAUCOR

What are serrated blades?

A serrated blade has a serrated or toothed edge. The serrations can be applied to one or two sides of the blade. They can be coarse or fine and can vary in number. The most common serration pattern is the wave, but there are other patterns.

The purpose of the serrations is to provide a more excellent cutting surface and to make the blade more effective at cutting through tough or fibrous material.

Baucor manufactures and supplies both standard and custom serrated knives and blades for all kinds of use including food processing such bakery, poultry, meat processing and packaging as well as many other industrial uses. Regardless of industry, our serrated knives and blades are made from quality ground hardened tool steels, stainless steel as well as tungsten carbide.

Advantages of using serrated blades

There are many advantages of using serrated blades:

  • More efficient:
Serrated blades can grab onto and cut through more rigid materials such as rope or fabric more efficiently.

  • Safer to use:
Serrated blades are less likely to slip or slide when cutting than non-serrated blades, making them safer for general use.

  • Sharpness:
They tend to stay sharper for more extended periods than straight-edged blades. Serrated blades have smaller contact surfaces with the cut material.

  • Versatility:
A serrated blade is a versatile tool for various tasks, such as cutting through rigid materials or slicing bread. Serrated blades are also more effective at sawing through thick, fibrous materials than straight-edged blades.

How serrated blades are manufactured?

  • Cutting:
The manufacturing process starts by cutting the blade's shape from a metal sheet using a CNC machine, a computer-controlled machine that can create precise cuts.

  • Heating:
After the blade has been cut to its desired shape, it is heat treated to give it the strength and durability it needs to withstand use, which makes the blade more resistant to breaking or chipping, and helps it to retain its edge for longer.

  • Sharpening:
Next, the blade is sharpened to remove any imperfections. And to refine the blade's edge and make it even sharper, a grinding process is used until the level of sharpness is achieved.

  • Coating:
The tips of the blade can be coated with different materials to help improve resistance to wear or corrosion. The most common materials used for coating the tips of blades are chromium and tungsten.
